SECTORS

Specialised Services from Verified Contractors

ROA organises members into four sectors based on their primary service area. This structure allows us to address sector-specific technical requirements, coordinate targeted training, and connect clients with appropriately qualified contractors.

All sector members hold current Ministry licences and have completed ROA's verification process.

Borehole drilling operation
01

Drilling Sector

Members who own and operate drilling rigs for borehole construction. This sector includes contractors using rotary, DTH (down-the-hole hammer), and cable tool methods across Kenya's geological formations.

Search Drilling Sector Members

Services

  • • Water borehole drilling (domestic, commercial, institutional, agricultural)
  • • Test hole and hydrogeological exploration drilling
  • • Borehole rehabilitation, deepening, and cleaning
  • • Geotechnical and foundation drilling

Technical Capability

  • • Drilling in volcanic, sedimentary, metamorphic, and basement formations
  • • Depths from shallow hand-pump boreholes to deep production boreholes
  • • Casing installation (steel and uPVC) and screen placement
  • • Gravel packing, cement grouting, and borehole development
  • • Yield testing and pump test supervision

Compliance

All Drilling Sector members hold valid licences from the Ministry of Water and Sanitation and are required to follow the Water Bores Construction Requirements for borehole completion.

Pump installation and equipping
02

Equipping Sector

Members specialising in pump supply, installation, and commissioning for completed boreholes. This sector handles the critical transition from drilled borehole to functioning water supply system.

Search Equipping Sector Members

Services

  • • Submersible pump supply and installation
  • • Rising main installation (uPVC and galvanised steel)
  • • Pump house and surface pipework
  • • Electrical connections, control panels, and switchgear
  • • Solar pumping system design and installation
  • • Pump testing and system commissioning

Equipment Expertise

  • • Submersible pumps: solar, single-phase, three-phase, diesel-powered
  • • Variable frequency drives and soft starters
  • • Pressure vessels and hydropneumatic systems
  • • Backup power: generators and battery systems
  • • Monitoring equipment: flow meters, level sensors, telemetry

Quality Assurance

Equipping Sector members work with equipment that meets relevant standards and provide commissioning documentation for installed systems.

Water storage tanks
03

Storage Solutions Sector

Members providing water storage infrastructure for borehole systems, including tanks, reservoirs, and elevated storage structures.

Search Storage Sector Members

Services

  • • Plastic and steel tank supply and installation
  • • Elevated tank stands and support structures
  • • Ground-level and underground reservoir construction
  • • Tank cleaning, inspection, and maintenance
  • • Integration with distribution systems

Technical Considerations

  • • Storage sizing based on demand patterns and pump cycling requirements
  • • Material selection for potable water (food-grade plastics, coated steel)
  • • Structural engineering for elevated installations
  • • Overflow, drainage, and access provisions
  • • Compliance with county building regulations

Quality Standards

Storage Sector members supply tanks and structures that meet KEBS standards for potable water storage and relevant structural codes.

Water treatment system
04

Water Treatment Sector

Members providing water quality testing, treatment system design, and purification equipment for borehole water supplies.

Search Water Treatment Sector Members

Services

  • • Water quality sampling and laboratory analysis
  • • Treatment system design based on source water characteristics
  • • Filtration: sediment, carbon, multimedia
  • • Disinfection: chlorination, UV, ozonation
  • • Specialty treatment: iron/manganese removal, fluoride reduction
  • • Reverse osmosis and desalination systems
  • • System maintenance and consumable supply

Technical Standards

  • • Testing against KEBS KS EAS 12:2018 drinking water standards
  • • Treatment selection matched to identified water quality issues
  • • System sizing for required flow rates and demand patterns
  • • Residual disinfection for distribution systems
  • • Documentation and ongoing monitoring protocols

Regulatory Compliance

Water Treatment Sector members understand KEBS drinking water standards and can design systems that bring borehole water to potable quality where treatment is required.
